Slipknot, the American heavy metal band from Iowa, formed in 1995. Band members include the masked, Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor. Their debut album, “Slipknot”, was released in 1999 and reached number 51 in the US. It is the band’s best selling album and acheived Double Platinum status in February 2005. “Iowa” (2001) reached the top ten album sales chart in nine countries and was certified platinum in the US in October 2001. The album included the single "Left Behind” which peaked indide the UK top 30. “My Plague” was also released from the album and peaked at number 43 in the UK singles chart. “Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)” (2005), saw further mainstream success for Slipknot, peaking within the top ten in album sales across eleven countries. “9.0: Live”, the band’s first live album was released in December 2005 following their 2004-2005 world tour in promotion of their third studio album. The live album made it into the top twenty in both Austria and the US. 2008’s “All Hope is Gone” was the band’s first album to debut at number in the US. It also entered at number one on eight other charts worldwide. 2009 marked the band’s 10th anniversary of their debut album’s release. This coincided with the band’s headline slot at Download Festival. On May 24, 2010, Paul Gray was found dead in a hotel room in Urbandale, Iowa. The band are still undecided as to whether they will continue. Slipknot have also seen much success with their side projects, Stone Sour and Murderdolls. The follow up to “All Hope is Gone” is expected to be released in 2010.
