Californian heavy metal band Slayer formed in 1981 and released their debut, “Show No Mercy” in 1983. The album has gone on to sell 40,000 copies worldwide. Current members include Tom Araya (lead vocals), Jeff Hanneman (guitar), Kerry King (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums). “Reign in Blood” (1986) marked Slayer’s first entry into the US Billboard 200, peaking at number 94. In 1988 the band released “South of Heaven” which was awarded gold certification in 1992. 1990’s “Seasons in the Abyss” achieved the highest position the band has reached at the time, number 40 on the Billboard 200. The band’s sixth studio album, “Divine Intervention”, was released in September 1994. It sold 93,000 copies in its first week of release and was certified gold in Canada and US. “God Hates Us All” (2001) entered at number 28 in the US and number 9 in Canada. The band’s most successful album came in 2006, with “Christ Illusion”. It debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and includes the Grammy Award winning songs, “Eyes of the Insane" and "Final Six". Slayer’s tenth album, “World Painted Blood”, was released in November 2009 and along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax they performed on the same bill for the first time at part of the Big 4. It was the first performance that bands played as a part of Sonisphere Festival series, one of the following (Sofia, Bulgaria, June 22, 2010) was sent via satellite in HD to cinemas.
