Foo fighters formed in 1995 from the ashes of Nirvana. The rock band have gone on to become hugely successful with three of the band’s albums winning Grammy Awards for the Best rock album. Grohl recorded the Foo Fighter’s debut album in 1994 and played all of the instruments. Nate Mendel (bassist), William Goldsmith (drummer) and Pat Smear (guitarist) joined the band before the album was released in July 1995. Taylor Hawkins has since replaced Goldsmith and Chris Shiflett joined as the band's second guitarist. Their self titled debut album reached platinum status in the US by early 1996. In 1996 the released their second album, “The Colour and the Shape”. The album was well received particularly well in the UK, entering the charts at number 3. “Nothing Left to Lose”, the band’s third album, showcased a more melodic and pop rock sound and reached number 8 in the UK album charts. “Learn to fly” was the first release from the album and one of the most successful singles for the band making it to number 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band’s fourth album, “One by One” (2002) gave the band their first UK number one album, sold 1.2 million copies in the U.S and won a Grammy for the best rock album in 2004. “ Foo Fighter’s latest album, “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” was released in 2007 and sold 135, 685 copies in the first week. It reached number 1 in the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The band released their greatest hits in November 2009 and are currently writing their 5th album.
