The Californian Rock punk/metal band formed in 1999 and recorded their debut album, “Sounding the Seventh Trumpet”, in 2001 when they were still at high school. The original line up included M Shadows (vocals), Synyster Gates (Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan (drums) and Matt Wendt (bass). The line up has changed since their first inception and Johnny Christ is the current bassist. “City of Evil” was released in 2005 and became Avenged Sevenfold’s first gold record. This saw a move away from the metalcore as the album encompasses a more classic metal sound. “City of Evil” sold more than 300,000 copies in its first week of release and they also achieved top ten success with the single, “Bat Country”. Their mainstream success secured them a main stage slot on the Ozzfest tour. Their fourth studio album, “Avenged Sevenfold”, was released in October 2007. It was has sold over 500,000 copies. Last year they released a Live CD and DVD, “Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the rough' featuring footage from their last show in Long Beach as part of the Taste of Chaos tour. The Rev passed away on December 28th 2009. The band were in the process of writing their fifth studio album 'Nightmare' and were urged to finish the album by The Rev's family so they drafted in The Rev's favourite drummer, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, to complete the recording process.
